From Discovery to Shipping: Our Proven Product Design Process

M Mohammed RayyanFounder, Ninety5 Studio

Many software projects fail because of a disconnect between design intention and development execution. A successful launch requires a structured product design process that aligns user research with clean frontend code.

At Ninety5 Studio, we deploy a battle-tested, four-phase product design process that ensures rapid feature iteration, pixel-perfect visual consistency, and frictionless developer handoff. Here is how we do it.

The Four Phases of Our Product Design Process

1. DISCOVERY & RESEARCH2. UX ARCHITECTURE3. HI-FI DESIGN4. PRODUCTION HANDOFF

Phase 1: Discovery & User Research We never begin with visuals. We begin with constraints. We audit current analytics, interview key stakeholders, and teardown competitors to isolate product friction points. By conducting qualitative testing early, we replace speculation with evidence. * Deliverable: Research brief and prioritized layout requirements. * Learn more about our UX Research capabilities.

Phase 2: UX Architecture & Wireframing Next, we map user journeys, outline information hierarchies, and build low-fidelity interactive wireframes. This allows us to validate the core user experience and flow logic before investing time into visual aesthetics. * Deliverable: User flow maps and wireframe prototypes.

Phase 3: High-Fidelity Design Systems Once the structural flow is approved, we apply the visual layer. We build modular UI components (buttons, text fields, navigation bars) in Figma, mapped directly to design variables like CSS tokens. We design for edge cases, hover animations, and dark modes from day one. * Deliverable: Production Figma workspace with responsive layouts. * Review our Design Systems integration to see how we maintain visual harmony.

Phase 4: Production Handoff & Engineering support Handoff is where design agencies traditionally fail. We write clean, semantic code and build responsive frontends using Next.js. We don't just dump design files; we deliver production-ready codebases with integrated schemas and verified page speeds. * Deliverable: Production-ready GitHub repository. * Review our Web Development stack to see how we build.

Process in Action: The Atlas Analytics Dashboard

When building the Atlas SaaS dashboard, we used this exact process to design and engineer a data visualization engine serving 200+ enterprise clients. By bridging design tokens to Next.js components, we delivered a 280% user retention boost and sub-second page loads.
